Leading jockey Ryan Moore is yet to decide whether he will be riding Conduit or Doctor Fremantle at the forthcoming St Leger Stakes.
Ryan’s decision will determine which horse Frankie Dettori rides at the St Leger, with the Italian jockey offered second pick of Sir Michael Stoute’s runners.
Ryan is reportedly waiting for clarity on what sort of ground conditions are likely to confront the runners at the St Leger, and will make his pick once he’s tested both runners in suitable conditions.
“Ryan is concerned about the ground for Conduit. It will be riding a second per furlong slower than standard by Saturday,” Sir Michael Stoute told reporters on Wednesday.
Moore rode Conduit to victory in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last month, and also piloted Doctor Freemantle to fourth place at the Prix de Paris.
“I want to sit on both of them, and talk to the boss. There’s not a lot between them,” Moore said of Stoute’s two best prospects for the race.
Meanwhile the other trainers with entries to the race have confirmed their rider pairings for the race. Johnny Murtagh will ride Frozen Fire for Adian O’Brien, Jimmy Fortune will ride Bashkirov and David McCabe will partner Hindu Kush.
